Body And Beyond

When we first visited this property we both felt something special about it. The town of Holualoa down the road is considered by many to be the holistic and artistic center of Kona. Perhaps it is because you can feel the energy from Hualalai mountain as well as the nearby Pacific Ocean.  Regardless your worn out body will surely be rejuvenated by the kind and healing energy of nature that Kona View Estate rests on.

In such a precious environment, one of the owners, Atsumi, practices her healing methodologies. 

One is called "Structural Integration," also known as SI or Rolfing.

This is a hands-on body-work which helps crunched-down, distorted and worn-out bodies (caused by the daily work and stress in our lives) to be a well-aligned, healthy and fluid ones.  It is a series of 10 sessions.  After the sessions, your body becomes easier to move, lighter feeling and more fluid. Your range of movement becomes greater and more effortless.  Rolfing is recommended for serious athletes like Ironman, marathoners and dancers to ordinary people like Atsumi.

The other is an exercise method called "GYROTONIC®."  SI helps each of your joints open up so that you can move easier and with a greater range of motion.  The distortion that a person experienced before having the SI 10 sessions was caused by their life style.  A body always tries to make itself balanced and supported in order to make our lives go on.  For example, if you work in front of the computer all day long, your body recognizes you need the support to be able to sit down on a chair, typing at a keyboard and watching a computer screen.  In other words, lower back, hip joints, spine, neck, shoulders, as well as knees, ankles, wrists and elbows become hard and shrunk down to support and not move your body for hours at a time.  SI releases those restrictions and lets blood flow through to bring oxygen and nutrition so that the tissue around each restriction becomes healthier and the end result is that you feel great!  But after the sessions, if you go back to your original life style, your body starts to support the same areas again and they become hardened again.  In order to keep your joints healthy, you need to do some exercise.  Since your life style already tends to crunch your body down, why do you want to crunch it again by exercise?  Many forms of exercise do precisely what is not good for your body.

GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® is the series of exercises to open your joints when you move without stressing your body.  Focusing on the spine and making it movable while strengthening the core of your body, GYROTONIC® workout makes the core of your body strong. This core strength is what is missing in so many of us, including professional athletes.  With joints open and flexible and with appropriate core strength we can all keep our body well balanced to pursue our sport or tasks of daily life. A GYROTONIC® regimen also allows flexibility to increase so that the range of motion becomes greater and smoother. GYROTONIC® uses a very interesting tower of pulleys and weights to help support your body through the range of exercises. These exercise are not linear like most forms of stretching or exercising. They are three dimensional – almost like swimming through the air. Most people find the sessions a bit difficult at first but then really come to enjoy the new sense of balance and growing strength that the exercise brings- in other words they are fun!

Currently Atsumi is practicing out of the North side of the house. The Body and Beyond studio is in the design stage right now and we hope to have it finished by May.
